Kelly Rowland set to take over Dubai
By Staff Writer
Published Tuesday, March 09, 2010
Former Destiny’s Child star Kelly Rowland is returning to the UAE later this month for a one-off performance.
Following a successful Australian tour, Grammy winner Rowland will belt out her biggest solo hits at Ocean Club Dubai, at the Sheraton Jumeirah Beach Hotel on March 26.
With a new record label and management, Rowland, who, along with childhood friend Beyonce, has been singing for more than 20 years, is enjoying a career resurgence.
Her latest single When Love Takes Over – a collaboration with French dance producer David Guetta – has taken the charts by storm. “This is a fresh start for me. I’m in a fantastic place right now,” she said.
“Half the time, I don’t even have to sing the words,” marvels Kelly at the reaction of dancers to the hit. “It’s just a fun record. It feels good. For so long, I’ve been saying I wanted to do a record that I could be me on.”
The 29-year-old had already had solo success before Destiny’s Child split in 2005 thanks to the number one single Dilemma with Nelly. She released her first solo album, Simply Deep, in 2002, from which Stole and Can’t Nobody became international hits. But it was the single Work that cemented her status as an acclaimed solo star.
And with memorable performances in the UAE, Rowland is relishing the opportunity to return.
“I’m so excited to come back to Dubai and perform. I always enjoy performing to a crowd that is so welcoming and Dubai is the number one spot,” she said.

Kelly Rowland shows up Goerge Michael and Adam Lambert at the first Mardi Gras party
From:The Daily Telegraph March 08, 2010 12:00AM

IN the end it was straight-girl Kelly Rowland who lifted the roof at the first ever Mardi Gras party to be held a week after the actual parade – showing up George Michael’s pretendy performance two hours earlier.
Rowland opened her lungs with her hit When Love Takes Over, making it an ode to gay and lesbian marriage at 3am in the Royal Hall Of Industries at the old showgrounds yesterday.
The former Destiny’s Child member belted out her classic two hours after Michael played peek-a-boo with the crowd and his microphone in a performance which still managed to win admirers.
He took to the stage at 1am to perform Outside but only after a double came out and tricked audiences into thinking he was the real deal before Michael appeared, surrounded by an entourage of dirty cop dancers. But he only sang just more than half the track, holding out the mic to the audience to fill in his gaps.
“I fully appreciated hearing his voice live,” our party operative said. “But honestly, I’d prefer not to hear a bunch of screaming queens mincing the lyrics.”
Ouch. Yet a Sydney Mardi Gras is nothing without bitches and Michael’s mere presence was enough to sate the giant crowd’s appetite for hedonism. It was also fed by American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert and the transexual astonishment that is Amanda Lepore.
It was a great party – even if a week late – so what began as a booking error in not securing the Horden Pavilion last Saturday turned into an unexpectedly brilliant night.
It meant an extra week was attached to the festival and the partygoers were able to fine tune and pump up their energy.

Rowland shops up a storm in Sydney
By Katherine Field From:AAP March 04, 2010 4:31PM
KELLY Rowland has decked herself out in Australian fashion, saying she has fallen in love with local designers during her visit.
The US Grammy Award-winning singer has spent the past two days shopping up a storm in Sydney, buying clothes from the likes of Manning Cartel and Sass and Bide.
Rowland even picked up a few treats to take back home to friends in the US.
“For the past two days, I’ve truly enjoyed my shopping,” Rowland, wearing Australian designs, said in Sydney.
“I went to Manning Cartel, and Sass and Bide and Peep Toe, and then Satch, which had really nice men’s stuff. And I got some friends back home some stuff. It was just great. I love it.
“I just fell in love with all the designers.
“I have to go shopping again.”
The shopping expedition comes two years after Rowland wore an outfit on stage, designed by Australian Project Runway contestant Juli Grbac, who went on to win the competition. (Read more…)

Kelly Rowland finally on her own
By Elle Halliwell
From:The Sunday Telegraph February 27, 2010 6:57PM
SHE was a Survivor and an Independent Woman as part of Destiny’s Child, but only now can Kelly Rowland can really lay claim to solo success.
“I have new management, a new label and, you know, everything is really ‘for me’, and I love that,” Rowland says.
It’s been an intense five years for Rowland, 29, who has pursued a solo career since parting ways with former band mates Beyonce and Michelle Williams in 2005.
Just days before her arrival in Sydney for the Gay And Lesbian Mardi Gras party this Saturday, Rowland spoke to Insider on her life post-Destiny’s Child.
“When you think about the history of girl groups – I won’t say all, but some – which are the stories we always hear about? Some aren’t the best-ending situations,” she says.
“But with Destiny’s Child, we did a great job of supporting each other and being there and still remaining close, so that’s what I’m most proud of us for.”
Rowland, who in the group played second fiddle to Beyonce, is now breaking free of her R&B roots and delving into the dance genre. And the move has already paid off.
The hit dance single she co-produced with French DJ David Guetta, When Love Takes Over, topped the music charts in the UK and throughout Europe and scored the duo Grammy awards last month.
“David and I will be in Australia together so I’m hoping we’re going to get a chance to get in the studio and make some more magic while were there,” she says. (Read more…)
