The past few weeks I have made it known that I love me some Kelly Rowland. From her newfound punky funk to the way she jiggles my junk, girl knows how to lay down a dance track.
It doesn’t hurt that she’s reteamed with mega-producer David Guetta “When Love Takes Over”) for her latest single “Commander,” the first track from her upcoming self-titled album. Other recent leaks from her September 21 release — “On & On (The Sound)” and “Forever and a Day” — are just tastes of what we can expect from the CD.
Kelly will performing at the special event opening of Marina Bay Sands Hotel tomorrow in Singapore.
A concert – featuring former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland, as well as homegrown stars JJ Lin and Sylvia Ratonel – will be held at the Event Plaza and attended by about 4,000 people who were given tickets earlier.
Kelly Rowland was one third of Destiny’s Child until the world’s top girl group drifted apart. SHE’s relaxed about her solo career – as long as nobody mentions the b word
It’s the hottest day of the year so far in London. I’m waiting for Kelly Rowland in a hotel suite in Mayfair so big and bling and boiling it would make Lady Gaga wilt like a wallflower. The temperature is hotter than a Beyoncé photoshoot in the seventh ring of hell, with the pink and black soft furnishings to match. The air conditioning has been turned off. Windows have been closed. Curtains drawn to shut out the sun. “Can we turn up the AC?” someone asks faintly. “No,” replies Kelly Rowland’s PR. “Kelly likes the room to be warm.”
So Rowland is a hot-blooded diva. At least I hope so. What more could you expect from one third of the world’s most bootylicious girl group Destiny’s Child, the trio who made hands-in-the-air independent women of us all, at least for a few minutes? (Read more… )

Kelly Rowland, newly signed Universal Motown, is bringing a revamped and grandiose sound for her self-titled album, Kelly Rowland. Being her third studio album as a solo artist, Kelly Rowland exhibits Rowland’s maturation with emotionally charged lyrics and a range of musical elements from techy dance tracks to slow ballads. Ms. Rowland’s listening party at Hudson Hall in New York City’s Upper West Side, yesterday, was an intimate celebration of the new direction that Rowland is taking with her art and career.
While perched elegantly atop the mahogany finished bar table, Kelly Rowland, looking stunning in a flowing tan mini dress and chunky taupe suede heels, was interviewed by the equally fabulous Gayle King. King questioned the artist about her initial fear of failure after leaving the musical powerhouse that is Destiny’s Child, personal development as an artist and how real life serves as a constant inspiration for music.
The first song played from Kelly Rowland was “Rose Colored Glasses,” a Dr. Luke produced track that speaks to the issues that arise when one plays the fool in a relationship. After the audience’s appetite was wet, the fun up-tempo song written by Ne-Yo, “Shake The Haters Off” came through the speakers while Rowland screamed “Blast that!”
“Its like a job I that I never get a break from/because haters never take a vacation,” cranked thorough the room enveloping the listeners and compelling everyone to bob their heads. “Grown Ass Woman,” also written by Ne-yo, had her digging through old pictures from the Destiny’s Child days reflecting on how far she has come yet how “Grown and silly” she still is. The ante was upped with “Forever and A Day” where Rowland displays her vocal skill by wailing on the track with long-winded riffs and hitting sky-high notes. The listening section ended with “Heaven and Earth,” a beautiful sonic portrait, painted with flecks of sentiment; a picture of what the singer believes is what “we deserve as a people.”
Kelly Rowland is a testament to the new heights to which Ms. Rowland will soar. With a new lease of life, she is rooted in her strengths as an individual. It is a celebration of her career as a refined and developed singular artist, a proud declaration that she is simply Kelly Rowland. Source
Having enjoyed one of 2009’s biggest international chart-toppers as featured vocalist/co-writer of David Guetta’s Grammy-winning dancefloor smash ‘When Love Takes Over’, one-time Destiny’s Child superstar Kelly Rowland now hooks up once more with said French dance DJ/producer for the electronic club grooves of her new anthemic single ‘Commander’.
All of which is further proof that not only is 29-year-old Kelly generally acknowledged on a personal level as one of the most sunny-natured stars in today’s music business, but that her recording career away from her former bandmates (iconic lead-singer Beyonce Knowles and gospel-raised Michelle Williams) continues to go from strength-to-strength in the international market.
